Gibbix GC: Discord Guidelines

Updates

Date/Time Notes

240318T1150R Removed FFXIV FC info as it's been moved to its own server.

Rules

We don't have any specific rules beyond the Discord Community Guidelines.

We reserve the right to remove any content or member, for any reason, at any time. However we generally don't do that. We've banned 26 accounts since 2015, some of which were spam bots. Any other bans were due to abuse (primarily, spamming racial slurs) or having been caught cheating on one of our game servers- and those people were given an opportunity to correct their behavior before we resorted to banning them. Oh, and Earl, for making threats and pretending to dox people. Earl's a loser. Don't be like Earl.

Staff

Staff are expected to conduct themselves in a professional manner. Joking around is fine, but please keep in mind that you represent our community. Staff will follow the same rules as any other member.

At this time, our community's rules match with the Discord Community Guidelines. We don't have any hard rules that we enforce beyond that point.

Other than rule enforcement, staff are asked to ensure that channel activities stay on topic, and direct members to more appropriate channels when necessary.

Role Structure Logic

  1. Hierarchial Roles: Hierarchial roles deal with community management.
    1. Regular: The Regular role is for members who have shown interest in the community, and have passed some basic vetting by staff or another trusted member. Regulars are people who have played games with us for a while, and preferably been active in a voice channel, who we trust not to do anything nasty.
    2. Moderator: A Moderator is everything a Regular is, but we also trust them with permissions to perform moderation tasks such as deleting abusive messages or muting members if necessary.
    3. Administrator: An Administrator is essentially a Moderator with the power to issue kicks and bans. Administrators have access to most channels, except for a handful which are moderated by other appointed community members.
    4. Senior Administrator: A Senior Administrator has access to all channels and all administrative actions.
  2. Interest Roles: Interest roles are roles that are specific to games, activities, or feed channel subscriptions. Some examples follow.
    1. Rust: These are Rust players. A member who has this role, but no hierarchial role, is only here for the Rust server and its associated channels, and that's all they should be able to see.
    2. FFXIV: These are friends who play Final Fantasy XIV.
  3. Vanity Roles: These are permissionless roles that are given to members for fun or achievement.
  4. Bot Roles: Never give these to members. They have special permissions that non-staff members shouldn't have.

Channel Structure Logic

Informational Channels

The informational channels are meant to be either static or feed channels, which provide useful information to members.

General Channels

General channels are:

  1. For general community discussion that doesn't necessarily have a topic.
  2. Utility channels that are meant to be accessed by anyone with Regular role or higher.

Staff Channels

Staff channels are for staff operations, such as:

  1. Staff discussion.
  2. Bot commands for staff actions.
  3. Staff utility channels for bot notifications.

Social Channels

Social channels are for use by members who have the Regular role (or higher). Interest roles do not grant access to this category.

The voice channels in this category are accessible by anyone with a role in the hierarchy described in Role Structure Logic. They are meant to be used for either:

  1. General, off-topic socializing.
  2. Specific, non-gaming activities, such as:
    1. Watching movies, TV series, or anime together.
    2. Listening to music together.

FFXIV

This category is only visible to people who play FFXIV.

Text Channels

Other than #ffxiv_general, the remaining text channels are either feeds, bot spam, or bot control. Ideally, chat in #ffxiv_general should be about FFXIV-related stuff, but this isn't a hard-set rule.

Voice Channels

  1. FFXIV Social: A general chat channel for socializing with other FFXIV players. Please don't use this channel for in-game comms. Use a party channel instead.
  2. FXIV Party [A-C]: These are comms channels for party activities, such as FATEs, dungeons, raids, or PvP. Disruptive behavior will result in removal from the channel, and repeat offenses will result in loss of access. If you don't intend to join the party, don't join the channel.

Rust

These are the Rust channels. They're about Rust things.

Rust Team/Allies Channels

These are private channels for Rust gameplay, visible only to Senior Administrators and people who have the appropriate roles.

These channels are for playing Rust, scheming in Rust, and whatever else in Rust. Members who do not have roles for these channels should never be in these channels for any reason.

The social channels are for casual chat. "Battle" and "Logistics" channels are for comms. If you don't intend to join the activities in those channels, don't join the channels.

Personal Channels

Personal channels are general purpose social channels with varying levels of access, based on the owner of the channel. These are typically awarded to members of the community who have made significant contributions toward its development, who have requested a personal channel.

Staff are expected to respect the privacy of these channels, only joining with the consent of the channel owner, or by request to intervene in issues.
